This levy was first passed in 1993. It was renewed in 1998, 2003, 2008, and 2013. This RENEWAL will generate the exact same dollars as it did in 1993 - $394,200. THIS IS NOT A NEW TAX. It will result in NO INCREASE IN FUNDS to the District, and it will create NO ADDED COST per household. The millage rate required to achieve the $394,200 has decreased from 4 mills in 1993 to only 1.3 mills today.
The Renewal of this 1.3 mills five year Emergency OPERATING levy will provide for:
- Meeting the daily operation expenses
- Offsetting unavoidable inflation
- Reacting to unpredictable loses in state dollars and unfunded mandates
The East Muskingum Board of Education and Administration have continuously operated our District in the most responsible and lean manner. We value the investment that our taxpayers make into our schools and the children who are the future of our Community. We take pride in the fact that East Muskingum Schools earned a Statewide Average Performance Index Score from the Ohio Department of Education of 90.9. This index measures our performance with the amount the District spends per pupil and compares this statewide.
THE MAJORITY OF OUR EXPENDITURES GO DIRECTLY TO CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION.
Our per pupil expenses for the 2016-17 school year were
$7,927 compared to a state average per pupil expense of
$9,149. East Muskingum has been able to do more for our
students with less, compared to other districts who have
more to spend. We operate with fiscal transparency.
